Academic Advising in the Ivan Allen College
Meeting with your advisor regularly is strongly recommended for all students. Academic advising is available throughout the year, but there are some instances where academic advising is mandatory to ensure your successful progress.
Scheduling an Appointment
Scheduling an appointment is easy. Most of our academic advisors, use the Georgia Tech Advising site's on line Advising Scheduler. Not sure who your academic advisor is or if they use the on line appointment scheduler? Then visit our advising directory.
When Is Advising Required?
Academic Advising is required in the following cases:
- First semester Freshman
- First semester transfer student
- Freshman receiving a mid-term "U"
- Undeclared Major student
- On Academic Probation or Review
- Graduating Senior (until degree petition completed)
If you are one of these students, please make sure you schedule your advising appointment prior to each registration period. Advising holds will be used to ensure that all students listed above will be seen.
Prepare For Your Advising Appointment
Following these simple guidelines will allow you and your advisor to spend your time more effectively strategizing your career path and assessing your progress:
- Bring an updated copy of your curriculum checklist
- Have a list of questions ready
- If you are meeting to discuss course selection, review the available classes on OSCAR
- Come on time!
