Changing Majors

All students entering as freshmen have one unrestricted change of major allowance before 60 credit hours. Certain majors with high enrollment have been granted a waiver of the one free change of major. After 60 hours, the school offering the major can impose GPA or other restrictions.

Transfer students are not eligible for the one free change of major.

All students should check with the new major they want. Once approved, complete a Change of Major form which is available at the Registrar’s Office or on the Registrar's website.

Process for completing a change of major:

  1. Complete the top portion of Request for Change/Addition of Academic Major(s) form which can be obtained from the Registrar's website or from your advisor.
  2. Obtain signature from New Major school/college first.
  3. Obtain signature from Current Major school/college second.
  4. Return the form to the Registrar's office for processing.

How the Registrar's Office processes forms:

  • All forms are initially entered into the system usually within 24 hours.
  • If a student submits the form during registration on or before the end of the add/drop date, the major change will be reflected on records like your transcript.
  • If a student submits a form during any other time of the year, the change is not reflected until the beginning of the next semester.
