Degree Petitions
The Degree Petition Process
The degree petition process is different amongst the Ivan Allen College Schools, but below are some general guidelines to help guide you through the degree petition process:
- Your academic advisor should send a notice to all students inviting graduating students to meet to complete the degree petition paperwork. This notice should go out approximately two months before the deadline.
- Curriculum Checklist. It is always a good idea to come prepared to your degree petition meeting with your majors’ curriculum checklist completed. For anything you have not completed, leave blank. You can fill that out with your advisor.
- Degree Petition. You can obtain a degree petition online or in Tech Tower.
- Address: Do not use your Tech address on this form. The registrar wants a mailing address where they can send your diploma after graduation. This is typically a parent or guardian's address.
- Present schedule: list only the classes you need for graduation.
- Final schedule: do not fill out this schedule. Complete with your advisor.
- Social Science section: fill in the classes listed on the sample form. Put your U.S. History/Constitution course in the first line of the social science section.
- History/Constitution requirement: List your U.S. history course. It should be one of the following: POL 1101, HIST 2111, HIST 2112, INTA 1200, PUBP 3000.
- Regents Exam: log into your OSCAR account to look up the dates you passed your Regents Exam in reading and essay. List those dates in this section.
- Finally, when in doubt, leave a section blank.
- Optional - Minor and/or Certificate forms. See instructions under Academic Programs. Look in the left sidebar for Minors and Certificates.
- After completing the degree petition:
- Make sure you have obtained all the necessary signatures from your advisor and school.
- If you are co-op, see the co-op office for a signature.
- We highly advise making a copy of your degree petition after it has been signed to keep for your own records.
- Go to the Registrar's office in Tech Tower to deliver the degree petition form, the curriculum checklist, and the CAPP Audit your advisor gave you at your degree petition meeting.
- Celebrate! You have finished your degree petition process and will soon graduate!

Changes to Degree Petitions
Remember that you listed very specific classes on your degree petition for your final semester. Report any deviation from the schedule to your major advisor. If you register for classes that are not on your degree petition, you must contact your advisor and request that they inform the registrar about your change of schedule to be reflected in your degree petition. In some instances, you advisor may instruct you to contact the registrar yourself.
