Intramural Employment information session will be held this Thursday, January 8th at 6:30pm in CRC 249. Anyone interested in working for the Intramural Program during the spring semester needs to attend this meeting…or contact Dru Jenkins at jenkins@gatech.edu.

More about the Intramural Program below…

The Intramural Program within the Campus Recreation Department at Georgia Tech has several opportunities for student involvement through employment. The department sustains over 50 student employees per semester and is always accepting applications from interested individuals. These positions within the Intramural Program (IM) can offer the Georgia Tech student an array of skills and mechanics that can be carried over into real-world applications. Many employers today are looking for people who can operate in a team environment, effectively communicate with consumers, program management, and can learn to identify and resolve disharmony in a situation. All of these skills can and will be learned by an individual who seeks to become part of the Georgia Tech Intramural Program. And the great part is, no experience is necessary; we will provide all the necessary training! So become involved in one of the following positions and see yourself gain more than just the monetary results from working with the Intramural Program.

Model United Nations (INTA 4812) is open for registration and no prior MUN experience is required!

This class works through the spring semester to prepare for the fall GT Model United Nations Conference, which provides the IAC exposure to approximately 50 high schools. Students enrolled in the class will be assigned a committee and are expected to choose topics and prepare background guides. In the fall, students are expected to direct their committee at the GTMUN conference.

By taking this class students will gain valuable research, leadership, and organizational skills needed in the real world. Potential employers look highly upon students who have helped organize a conference with about 1000 attendees. Additionally, students will get the opportunity to help shine a positive light on IAC and Georgia Tech with one of the college’s highest exposure events!

Students should register soon before the class is filled. To get a permit please contact Katie Lange (klange3@gatech.edu) with your name, GTID, one or two sentences explaining why you want to take the class.

The annual Auxiliary Services IMPACT Scholarship application will post on www.Important Stuff.gatech.edu, Friday, Jan. 9.

This year, Auxiliary Services will award $4,000 scholarships: eight general IMPACT (Individuals Making Positive Achievements in the Community at Tech) scholarships for students showing positive impact to the Georgia Tech community and one single parent scholarship given to a single parent who successfully balances Georgia Tech classes and parenting.

“We are looking for a wide range of students who have made significant differences on Georgia Tech’s campus,” said Julie Elion, marketing and scholarship coordinator, Student Center.

Typically, an IMPACT Scholar has many different qualities that set him or her apart from others, including leadership skills, an outgoing personality, willingness to go out of the way to make a change in the community and being a hard worker.

IAC Students have received quite a few of these over the past few years, so start prepping for your application today!! Good luck!

Any full-time Georgia Tech student with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 can apply for this scholarship.

One online essay discussing the student’s positive impact on the Georgia Tech community or single parent capabilities, depending on the category, and one essay discussing how the scholarship will affect the student are part of the application.

Recommendation letters are also a part of the application process. Three letters must be submitted for each applicant and only one may be from a peer.

The scholarship selection process is a long and detailed one. The application opens online January 9 and the applications are due by February 20. The actual awarding of the scholarships is not until the end of March after extensive review and selection processes.

After a student applies for the scholarship online, it goes through pre-screening in which it is reviewed on the content of the person’s achievements, recommendations and GPA. After going through the pre-screen process, finalists are interviewed by a panel of three Georgia Tech faculty and staff, querying the same topics of each finalist.

When the IMPACT recipients are chosen, they and their families are honored at the annual Student Honors Luncheon and at the Up with the White and Gold banquet. The IMPACT Scholars are also invited to a reception in their honor where they receive an IMPACT award engraved with their name.
