I Am Enthusiastic - Joy

My Major: Economics (ECON)

My Minors: Public Policy and Spanish

What I love about Georgia Tech and Atlanta…

I love that we have an ever-growing number of diverse student organizations, I think everyone can find at least one that suits his/her interests. Also, football games are definitely among my favorite parts of Tech. Atlanta offers everything from art exhibitions to rock concerts, not to mention some great restaurants, stores, and parks; I don't think it's possible to be bored here.

What extra-curricular activities I stay very involved in?

Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Service Fraternity, Ivan Allen College Student Advisory Board, International House,

Why I think it is important for liberal arts students to get involved outside of the classroom...

Students need to balance classes with their extra-curricular activities in order to get the most out of their college experience. Although it might be difficult sometimes, especially if you bite off more than you can chew, like a lot of us at one time or another, we still have to remember that we are in college for our education and learn to prioritize. But "our education" may come from many different aspects of college life, and is definitely not exclusive to the classroom, so whether it's research, an internship, a student organizations, or just stepping outside of your comfort zone for a few hours, all that you learn at college will contribute to who you will become.

I have gained so much from my beyond the classroom activities...

I think the most important thing that I've learned from the variety of organizations I have joined and activities I have participated in since coming to Tech is leadership. I had always defined a "leader" as whoever was in charge of an organization, usually the president. However, I've realized that anyone can be a leader and almost everyone is at one point or another. Leadership does not come from a title, it comes from the way you deal with a difficult situation, how you interact with your fellow students, and also just through everyday discussions and putting your ideas out there for others to think about. Understanding leadership is not only important in college, but also essential for when we reach the work-place.

Why I chose my major…

I realized that Economics has broad applicability and that I would not be limited any specific area of study within it. I like the flexibility it gives me and I also find it to be a challenging and interesting subject.

What would be my dream career after I graduate?

I would like to be an Economic Consultant/Analyst for an international firm and travel all over the world.
