I Am a Leader- Nick
My Major: Public Policy (PUBP)
My Second Major: Industrial Engineering
Why I chose Public Policy…
I developed a fascination with politics, policy, and economics in high school, and the Public Policy program has allowed me to explore those interests in great depth. The program is excellent preparation for graduate school, and I would love to be involved in state or federal policymaking one day.
I have benefited from the challenges of pursuing two majors because…
Pursuing two majors has helped give me a well-balanced academic background. I have developed my analytical and technical skills as well as my writing and speaking abilities. Furthermore, I have enjoyed the challenge of taking a mix of very different classes each semester—it keeps things interesting.
Outside the classroom…
I am staying very busy as the new President of Georgia Tech's Student Government Association, I am a member of Delta Chi Fraternity, help with summer FASETs, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Executive Round Table.
Why was I inspired to get involved in student government and then eventually run for President?
I was encouraged to participate in a freshman leadership organization when I got to Tech, so I applied to FreShGA and was accepted. I found that I really enjoyed serving my fellow students, so I got further involved in SGA and was eventually appointed Vice President of Administrative Affairs. Working on behalf of the student body as a member of the SGA Executive Board for the past year and a half has been extremely rewarding, and I saw the Presidency as a fantastic opportunity to have an even greater impact in the next year.
Advice I would have for liberal arts students interested in taking a leadership role on campus…
Work hard and demonstrate your readiness to take on a leadership role. Get involved in extracurricular activities as early as you can, and network with as many other campus leaders as you can.
What I like most about Georgia Tech…
My favorite thing about Georgia Tech is the quality of the Student Body. We have an amazingly diverse and talented population of students, and I've enjoyed getting to know so many intelligent people.
What do I see myself doing in the future…
Practicing law, teaching a class at a local university, and becoming a state senator or representative in my spare time.
